  21.                                | are based on the actual game statistics of
  22.                                | the players in real games.

  24.                                | baseball games for serious analysts. It is
  25.                                | not a game. It is intended as a tool for

  29.                                | provides a framework within which you can

  31.                                | baseball season. You can use the program to

  35.                                | of your own local team. Play probabilities

  62.                                | educational and fun to play. It has
  63.                                | excellent animated graphics, a built-in
  64.                                | glossary of fishing terms, mouse support,
  65.                                | and three skill levels. Requires EGA and at
  66.                                | least 512K of RAM.
  67. BASSTOUR.ZIP   158261  11-18-93  BassTour 4.9 (Olsen, Richard A. ASP; $17) is
  68.                                | a fishing tournament game in which you have
  69.                                | complete control of a fully rigged bass
  70.                                | boat. You control where it goes, and how it
  71.                                | gets there. Your bass boat has all of the
  72.                                | latest accessories, including a trolling
  73.                                | motor, a 5 speed outboard motor, LCD chart
  74.                                | recorder, a rod box containing six different
  75.                                | fishing rods, and a fully stocked tackle box
  76.                                | we would all be proud to own. Save and
  77.                                | Restore games, and keep records of the
  78.                                | largest fish caught. The object of the game
  79.                                | is to catch the heaviest five fish limit on
  80.                                | each of three days of the tournament. The
  81.                                | fisherman with the highest total weight wins
  82.                                | the tournament. This looks like a great game
  83.                                | for the fishing enthusiast. It even has
  84.                                | mosquitoes to harass the fisherman (thanks a
  85.                                | lot!).
  86. BASSDUEL.ZIP   195434  11-18-93  BassDuel 1.21 (Olsen, Richard A. ASP; $17)
  87.                                | is a two-player fishing tournament game.
  88.                                | This game contains all the great features of
  89.                                | the popular BassTour game and more. It has
  90.                                | six new areas to fish that are BassTour and
  91.                                | Bass Class compatible. Supports a mouse and
  92.                                | a joystick. Requires 512K and EGA.
  93. CUNNING.ZIP    107625  11-19-93  Cunning FootBall (Cunningham, Cass; $25) is
  94.                                | a football game you play against the
  95.                                | computer. This is the best football game or
  96.                                | simulation that we have seen. While others
  97.                                | may let you select plays but allow you no
  98.                                | control over how the plays are executed;
  99.                                | some do not even graphically display the
  100.                                | action. CF lets you choose from a large
  101.                                | selection of plays (including punts,
  102.                                | kickoffs, and fumbles), displays actions and
  103.                                | sounds, and lets you control key players.
  104.                                | Mouse and joystick are supported but not
  105.                                | required.
  106. DEFENSE.ZIP    222986  11-20-93  Defense (Lee, Fred; $45) is a computerized
  107.                                | football game that gives you more control
  108.                                | than similar games. You do the tackling,
  109.                                | blocking, passes, runs, draw plays, field
  110.                                | goals, sacks, interceptions, fumbles, and so
  111.                                | on. It demands skill and quick reflexes. It
  112.                                | can be played by up to four players or
  113.                                | against the computer. The documentation
  114.                                | refers to a practice game, which the author
  115.                                | did not include, but which really isn't
  116.                                | necessary if you read the documentation
  117.                                | first. The program may not run on some
  118.                                | machines. Requires 500K of free memory.
  119.                                | Supports a mouse and joystick.
  120. FIELDGEN.ZIP   308310  11-19-93  Field General (Markert, Rodney B. ASP; $24)
  121.                                | is a football game in which you play the
  122.                                | computer or another player. Playing consists
  123.                                | of calling the plays. Unlike Cunning
  124.                                | Football (#1428), you have no control over
  125.                                | the players while the play is taking place.
  126.                                | You can play with either NFL or WLAF rules.
  127.                                | An interesting feature is the "chalkboard"
  128.                                | that shows how each of the football players
  129.                                | move on every play. There are an abundance
  130.                                | of game elements which can be controlled by
  131.                                | the user. You can fake punts, fake field
  132.                                | goals, and there are kickoff and receiving
  133.                                | options, an instant replay feature, and
  134.                                | extensive play descriptions. Requires a hard
  135.                                | disk or 720k+ floppy and 512k RAM.
  136. FOOTBALL.ZIP    75499  11-19-93  FootBall (Rankin, Pat and Day, Don; $10) is
  137.                                | a database of college football games from
  138.                                | 1933 through 1986 and includes a fast
  139.                                | look-up utility. Information in the database
  140.                                | includes, year, team, leading players,
  141.                                | conference winners, bowl game winners, Hall
  142.                                | of Fame members, coach of the year and more.
  143. FBSCORES.ZIP   116708  11-19-93  FootBall Scoreboard ($20) gives you access
  144.                                | to the results of more than 4200 NFL games -
  145.                                | regular season, wildcard, playoff,
  146.                                | championship and Super Bowl - played since
  147.                                | 1970. It will give you almost unlimited
  148.                                | flexibility in how you can look at the game
  149.                                | results. You can print reports over a range
  150.                                | of years, for specific teams, conferences
  151.                                | and divisions and more. This is a must for
  152.                                | all serious football fans.

  175.                                | distance), starting lineup, and more.
  176.                                | Standings can be reprinted without executing

  178. NFL_AID.ZIP    145926  12-05-93  NFL-Aid (Competitive Edge Software; $20)
  179.                                | contains statistics from the last 3000+ NFL

  193.                                | your golf game, including improvement
  194.                                | rating, consistency rating, handicap,
  195.                                | putting percentage, average on par 3, 4, and
  196.                                | 5 holes, and more. It can tabulate scores
  197.                                | from rounds within a range of dates and
  198.                                | provide statistics that point out
  199.                                | weaknesses. The program supports up to 20
  200.                                | golfers, 10,000 golf courses and 10,000
  201.                                | rounds of golf per player.
  202. CAD_HACK.ZIP   123221  11-20-93  CaddieHack (MICODE Developments; $15-$24) is
  203.                                | a golf game that comes in two versions, one
  204.                                | for EGA/VGA and the other for CGA. The
  205.                                | graphics are detailed, colorful, and fast.
  206.                                | Club swing and control are identical to
  207.                                | Mean-18's, although the distances for club
  208.                                | selected do not seem as accurate to us.
  209. MIC_GOLF.ZIP    26287  11-20-93  Micro Golf (Milsoft; $0) is a miniature golf
  210.                                | game with three courses. It is a much more
  211.                                | sophisticated game than Poko Memorial
  212.                                | Miniature Golf, below, but Poko seems to
  213.                                | require more skill, perhaps because you are
  214.                                | forced to play more bank shots. Also, on our
  215.                                | 386, the movement of the ball was too fast
  216.                                | to be seen.
  217. MIN_GOLF.ZIP    34031  11-20-93  Poko Memorial ($0) is a two-course miniature
  218.                                | golf game. The graphics are very crude, but
  219.                                | the game is fun to play. Both this and Micro
  220.                                | Golf allow multiple players.
  221. PRO_GOLF.ZIP   137276  11-20-93  PC Pro-Golf (CMA Software; $20) is a color
  222.                                | graphics golf game in which the user may
  223.                                | select clubs, direction and force of swing.
  224.                                | The force of swing is selected in advance
  225.                                | and you have no real-time control over the
  226.                                | actual swing. Nevertheless, the game is
  227.                                | entertaining and the graphics are good, with
  228.                                | water, sand, woods, buildings, roads,
  229.                                | out-of-bounds areas and more.
  230. PERSNPRO.ZIP   110240  11-19-93  Personal Pro for Golf (Software Development
  231.                                | Productivity, Inc.; $27) helps analyze and
  232.                                | improve your golf swing.
  233. TEEDOFF.ZIP     58129  11-20-93  Teed-Off (Hendricks, Kevin; $0) is a golf
  234.                                | game. The graphics are crude, but the play
  235.                                | of the game is still entertaining and
  236.                                | control of the club swing is similar to the
  237.                                | retail golf games.
  238. BALL.COM        16598  08-29-90  Ball (Galifir Developments; $10) is a
  239.                                | computer hockey game in which you can play
  240.                                | the computer or a friend, play a league or
  241.                                | let the computer play itself - all as any
  242.                                | two of a dozen different teams with
  243.                                | different characteristics. It took a few
  244.                                | tries just to understand the options at the
  245.                                | beginning, but once we got going, it was a
  246.                                | fun and challenging game.
  247. HOCKEY.EXE      33137  09-15-92  Solar Hockey League 1.1 (Sports; Galifir
  248.                                | Developments; $10) is a hockey game with
  249.                                | fast, smooth action. You can play against a
  250.                                | friend, your choice of computer teams, or
  251.                                | try to win the Solar Hockey League itself.
  252.                                | Each side controls three men. You can pass
  253.                                | and run with the disc (puck), but if you
  254.                                | hold onto it too long, the opponent can
  255.                                | steal it away.
  256. GOAL.ZIP       135936  11-19-93  Goal (Wizard Games; $25) takes you right
  257.                                | into the heart of soccer team management.
  258.                                | You can select a squad of 20 players from
  259.                                | any of 128 countries. Tactical options are
  260.                                | covered with great detail. You can adjust
  261.                                | your players' positioning and tactics from
  262.                                | minute to minute in response to every threat
  263.                                | from your opponents. You'll have to cope
  264.                                | with injuries, suspensions, fluctuating
  265.                                | player fitness and confidence. You are
  266.                                | provided with a detailed analysis of each
  267.                                | player and team, as you press on to the
  268.                                | World Cup playoffs. This is a very
  269.                                | interesting simulation. The program comes to
  270.                                | us from Scotland.
  271. SOCCER.ZIP     106550  11-19-93  Soccer Game (New Era Software; $20)
  272.                                | challenges you to become a successful
  273.                                | manager of a soccer team. You start with a
  274.                                | fourth-division team and work your way up.
  275.                                | The only way to move up is to do such a good
  276.                                | job that when your contract expires, a
  277.                                | better team will offer you a better
  278.                                | contract. If you have done poorly, none of
  279.                                | the teams will want you and the game is
  280.                                | over. The game uses a database of 1270
  281.                                | players, 100 teams, 100 treasurers, 100
  282.                                | scouts, 100 physiotherapists, 100 managers,
  283.                                | 100 assistant managers. The program does not
  284.                                | allow you to save and recall games, which is
  285.                                | a major nuisance. At least one of the
  286.                                | screens was written with flashing text,
  287.                                | which is a minor nuisance. Otherwise, this
  288.                                | is a well-written, very full-featured
  289.                                | program.
